introduction to Representation

I think the representation of the people in the movie are dominant because many movies that involve a kidnapping usually have a female as the victim and  the saviour as a strong fearless male who does his duty to , in this case,save his daughter  who is the victim of the the kidnapping . the kidnappers are foreign which is expected as they strong accent always shows that the daughter is in danger as they have very few lines that have am impact on the hero aswell  as the audience in the movie. 3) What stereotypes can you identify in the trailer?  that kidnappers a

1) Type up your research notes from the lesson - what did you find out about your allocated media conglomerate? the name of my media conglomerate was :VIACOM Viacom has other media products/ companies such as :  nickelodeon, paramount pictures, comedy central, dream works studios and MTV.  Examples of vertical and horizontal integration that Viacom are:  vertical    paramount picture cooperation that is in charge of productions,sales,marketing distribution of its films as well as films from MTV films and nickelodeon  horizontal conglomeration of TV stations, film production companies and websites  Viacom hasn't much examples of synergy, Diversification or cross media regulation because their target audience are mostly millennial                                                                                          2) Do you agree that governments should prevent media conglomerates from becoming too dominant?  What does the term 'Cultural Industries' actually refer to? the creation/ production of products of a creative or artistic nature  What does Hesmondhalgh identify regarding the societies in which the cultural industries are highly profitable? the societies are supportive of the cultural industries as they are highly profitable and their is high demand for them . these products also have economic stability and can be seen as sustainable. Why do some media products offer ideologies that challenge capitalism or inequalities in society? due to competition many companies try to do things new , unique , controversial and different in order to grab the attention of consumers so they do challenge norms in order to be more profitable and more on trend  What are the problems that Hesmondhalgh identifies with regards to the cultural industries?    its a risky business to be involved in and not many people choose creativity over commerce.Most products are deemed to expensive

1) What is regulation and why do media industries need to be regulated?     r egulation is a way  to provide rules and regulations to ensure that organisations operate fairly in the media.Media industries need to be regulated because the media products need to ensure that they  protect  public order and support the instruments of government and justice. The protection of individual and sectional rights and interests that might be harmed by unrestricted use of public means of communication. They should  promote  the efficiency and development of the communication system, by  innovation and connectivity. Ofcom report 1) How does the report suggest that TV viewing is changing? TV viewing is changing as many people are increasingly viewing content in different ways, on television and on devices(phones,tablets etc...). young people aren't viewing PSB'S as much as they used to , before the rise in smart phones and the internet. 2) What d ifferences are highlighted between younger and older viewers? The age gap for viewers is widening. Viewers  who were aged 65+ watched an average of 5 hours 44 minutes in 2016 where as viewers  aged  16-24 years watched an average of 1 hour 54 minutes.The a verage daily viewing for children and 16-24 year old each fell by 10 minutes, whereas viewing by over 65 year old  increased by 2 minutes.  3) Does the report suggest audiences are satisfied with public service broadcasting TV channels? yes , PSB's are still highly valued and satisfaction within aspects are increasing.  78% of  viewers of any PSB channel claim to be satisfied wit
