representation theory

1) Why is representation an important concept in Media Studies? representation is important because it provides a view on identity in a society. This view can be changed by the media and can be perceived differently by people. 2) How does the example of Kate Middleton show the way different meanings can be created in the media? it shows that that the subject , in this case Kate Middleton, has no control over how she is being represented in the photographer, it represents her as being an alcoholic when really she was finishing a drink . 3) Summarise the section 'The how, who and why of media representation'  In the media, its essential to question who is creating representations and why  as media products have specific functions this representations can create stereotypes, ideologys etc.. and the audiences  can attach themselves to them easily  without question.  4) How does Stuart Hall's theory of preferred and oppositional readings fit with representation? the
