January assessment learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

D grade -bit too general/ overview apart from part about Ebola which is too detailed
EBI: balance your argument , theory and examples when you structure an essay answer. Read all questions carefully
WWW: you clearly revised + applied theory and some media terminology
2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.

  • question 1 - correct strategies and benefits
  • question 2 - Excellent knowledge and understanding of public service broadcasting and its impact on media audiences and industries that is consistently supported by highly appropriate and effective examples.consistent highly appropriate use of subject specific terminology throughout.
  • question 3 - Judgements and conclusions regarding the application of audience effects theory are perceptive and fully supported with detailed reference to theories examples.

3) On a scale of 1-10 (1 = low, 10 = high), how much revision and preparation did you do for this assessment?

I believe I revised a substantial amount for this text , however I didn’t properly consolidate and see if I was able to apply my knowledge to questions so I would say about a 6

4) Look at your answer for Question 1. Did you manage to write about three different strategies and three different benefits? It's vital you read the question and follow it exactly.

No I didn’t answer question 1 to get any marks as I misinterpreted the question and talked about something completely different.

5) Look at your answer for Question 2. Did you follow the question guidance and write about both
the BBC and commercial broadcasters? What could you have added to this answer to reach a higher mark?

Yes I did talked about BBC and other commercial broadcasters which meant u did have minimum marks however I felt that I should have added more evidence to back up my points.

6) Now look over your mark, teacher comments and the mark scheme for Question 3 - the 20 mark essay question on media effects theory. Write a new paragraph for this question based on the suggested theories/answers in the mark scheme. Make sure it is an extensive, detailed paragraph focused on the question and offering examples from the wider media.

balanced argument- against
on the other hand of the argument Bulmer and katz's Uses and Gratifications theory suggests concepts that disprove this statement as audiences are active and seek out media they wish to engage with. This suggests media is less likely to be damaging and audiences have a high degree of control over their media consumption. Therefore, audiences dont always have a negative impact from media consumption as our minds arent considered as 'passive' and audiences can choose what they wish to believe, replicate, like etc... as they are in control .
